We are a small research and development charity that designs assistive technologies that transform the lives of people with a disability or illness.
People like Romeo, aged 4, who has a Wizzybug powered wheelchair on loan free of charge from us thanks to your donations. He was left with no legs after having to have them amputated following a very rare illness when he was 3. Wizzybug has given him the chance to move about independently and keep up with his sister and friends without having to rely on his family to move him around.
People like Steve, who is living with dementia and was feeling very disorientated by normal clocks due to his illness. His confusion often left him wandering in the middle of the night. His daughter Emma got him one of our Day Clocks which has provided reassurance and a simple and understandable way for him to know what time of day it is.
All of our work to develop products and technologies to support people like Romeo and Steve relies on donations.
What we're all about
At Designability we are engineering and design experts with a passion for creating life-changing assistive technologies. We carry out original research and create products that meet real needs.
We advocate better technology for everyone and believe inclusive design is the only way forward. So we work with end-users, carers and health professionals to help us understand the problem, find a solution and test it in real life situations.
We create great looking, easy-to-use designs that go beyond basic functionality. And we partner with industry to help as many people as we can – we’ve transformed over 250,000 lives in the last 48 years.
A bit more about Wizzybug
Wizzybugs are fun and innovative powered wheelchair designed specifically for children under five. As there is often no NHS funding for powered mobility for children under 5, your support enables us to loan our Wizzybugs FREE to children in mainland UK who can benefit from them.
