Who we are
interAKtive is an independent charity with around 200 member families, all of whom have a child or children on the autism spectrum, or a child with a similar communication difficulty. The group enables children to experience a range of activities that may be just too difficult for them to access on a day-to-day basis, due to behaviour, fear or other reasons. interAKtive organises many exclusive-use events, including swimming, ice skating and climbing, so that the children are alongside others with similar issues, and free of the pressures that come with noisy, crowded public sessions. Many activities are open to the whole family. the interAKtive playscheme, run during the school summer and Easter holidays, gives parents the opportunity to leave their children in the care of experienced and qualified staff, secure in the knowledge that their children are not only happy and safe, but enjoying a whole host of different projects. Parents and carers face both common and different problems, and sharing experiences can be invaluable. In addition to coffee mornings, parents can look forward to the annual conference, which provides speakers who both inform and entertain. interAKtive has been operating since 1994 and has strong links with professionals in the fields of medicine and therapies, and with local specialist schools.
