North Of Tyne Mountain Rescue Team
Homepage
North Of Tyne Mountain Rescue Team covers a large geographical area of around 2000 square miles. Our patch roughly matches the Northumbria police area, taking in the Northumberland and Tyne & Wear.
Extending from the Scottish Border in the North, down to Wearside in the South. It is bordered to the west by Cumbria and to the east by the North Sea Coastline. It encompasses some of the most sparsely populated areas in England.
It includes; Kielder Forest one of the largest "man-made" forests in Europe, Northumberland National Park, the Cheviot hills, Simonside hills and a large area of the Pennines. The terrain varies from remote upland and moors, to dense forest, with agricultural and industrial land closer to the east coast.
The team is totally staffed by unpaid volunteers and funded by charitable donation. We receive direct no government funding although a small amount of equipment is supplied via MREW.
