Who we are
Home-Start Elmbridge is an independently run family support charity. We work with families who are experiencing a wide range of disadvantages such as poor mental or physical health, physical or learning disabilities. We also support children living in lone parent families and those whose parents are struggling to cope for a variety of reasons including bereavement, postnatal depression, social isolation, low income, poverty and debt, and subjects of domestic abuse, of parental drug or alcohol dependency. Any family can be referred to Home-Start for support, as long as there is at least one child under the age of five.
We receive referrals from a wide range of professionals, the majority of which come from Health Visitors. Home-Start Elmbridge recruit, train and support volunteers, who themselves have significant parenting experience so that they can offer one to one confidential practical and emotional support to families and children in their own homes. In addition to our home-visiting volunteer service we provide
- Carer Support – specialised support from a dedicated member of staff that provides assistance to our families where a member of the family has a disability/illness/diagnosis.
- Crisis Support – support from our crisis team providing immediate intervention support to our most vulnerable families.
- Counselling Support – support from our qualified counsellor/ psychotherapist.
- Parent support group – support for parents to help them deal with the challenges of parenthood in a group setting.
Through these support offerings, Home-Start Elmbridge aims to improve the ability of parents to care and provide for the health and social needs of their families, for the ultimate benefit of their children.
