Who we are
Derwen College is specialist college for young adults with SEND.
The college is able to meet the individual and diverse needs of young people aged between 16 and 25 with a wide range of learning difficulties and associated disabilities.
Derwen College Charity helps to provide students and adults with SEND with opportunities to enhance their learning and independence skills. We raise funds to provide the specialist tools, equipment and experiences they need to reach their goals. These include:
Independent living is a huge part of life at Derwen College, and our accommodation is designed to maximise independence for all who reside here. We use donations to upgrade and adapt accommodation to suit the specific needs of our students and adults with SEND.
Derwen College has its own commerical area - open to the public - where our students and adults with SEND learn work skills. Our business outlets include food outlets, a printing and digital copying business, a three-bed hotel, garden centre and a charity shop. We use donations to ensure our outlets and work equipment are up to date and industry standard.
Transport – The college enjoys many great partnerships with local employers who provide work placements for our students and adults with SEND. The main way we get to placements is by our small fleet of cars and minibuses - your donations help us get to work!
Specialist tools – Many of our learners have multiple disabilities that can make everyday tasks difficult. Donations are used to provide specialist tools and equipment to help learners become more independent.
Providing experiences – Derwen College provides student and adults with SEND the experiences and opportunities that build confidence and broaden horizons. We rely on donations to provide many of these opportunties.
