SolarAid is a leading international development charity tackling poverty and climate change by providing access to clean, affordable solar lights.

Based in London and working with our social enterprise SunnyMoney, we sell affordable solar lights in Malawi, Uganda and Zambia. We have set ourselves an ambitious goal: to eradicate the kerosene lamp from Africa.

A solar light does more than shine a light. A solar light protects the environment and transforms lives. 598 million off-grid Africans have no access to electricity and many rely on toxic kerosene for lighting. These brutal lamps emit noxious black smoke and burn up to 25% of household income - locking millions into poverty. By contrast our solar lights cost as little as $5, pay for themselves after 10 weeks and last for 3-5 years.

Having free, clean light and not wasting money on kerosene transforms peoples’ lives. We have taken on the challenge of getting these lights to the people that need them most and aim to get a solar light into every home in Africa.

By donating as little as £4 you are enabling us to distribute a solar light to a family in rural Africa.
