Who we are
Thornhill Foundation was established in 2017 to secure Thornhill Primary School's ability to deliver a rich, creative and enjoyable school experience for all children, despite recent reductions in government funding.
The Foundation seeks the support of parents, carers, alumni, businesses and local community members to help the school deliver major improvement projects that can’t be funded from the school's state budget, and to fund initiatives that enhance all our children’s educational experience.
We have successfully raised money for an exciting brand new library (watch our video here) and to upgrade our early years spaces. We also have exciting new plans for school improvement projects that will enhance the children's learning and school experience.
Regular monthly donations allow the Foundation to effectively budget and plan ahead. As our charity is eligible for Gift Aid, we can earn an extra 25% on your pledge.
- Calling all Dinner Donors - every primary school child in Islington currently benefits from free school meals that would normally cost parents £13 a week per child, or around £50 a month. We are asking parents who don’t qualify for free school meals, to consider donating their savings from this Islington Council initiative back to the school each month. Dinner Donors can make a huge difference to our charity's annual revenue. If we received the lunch money for just 10% of our school's 450 pupils then, with Gift Aid, we would have an annual income of £33,750. If we received it for 20%, we'd raise almost £70,000 a year! Imagine the benefits that kind of money could bring to our children's school experience.
- A donation of £7 a week, or £30 a month, works out at £450 per year with Gift Aid. If 10% of our parents donated this, we'd raise around £20,000 a year.
- Even giving just £3.50 a week (the cost of a coffee in many Islington cafes!), or £15 a month, adds up over a year, and could fund a full shelf of library books.
One-off donations are also really appreciated and will be put to good use.
Donations are entirely voluntary and confidential - there is no expectation or requirement for anyone to contribute. It is recognised that people support the school in so many invaluable ways - not just financial.
