The Friends of Penlee House are an independent Registered Charity No.1001644 formed in 1987 with the object of supporting Penlee House Gallery and Museum, Cornwall, in its cultural and educational activities.

The Friends membership is well over 1200, the majority of whom are local to Penzance, where the Gallery is based, but they also include a significant number of supporters from outside Cornwall and even outside the UK.

Over the years, the Friends of Penlee House have:

  • Helped fund significant improvements in gallery displays and conservation
  • Helped fund the museums's education programme, meaning that hundreds more school children and young people can learn about their art and heritage
  • Helped purchase works of art and artefacts of regional and national importance.

Penlee House Gallery & Museum is the centre for art and heritage in West Cornwall. Its collections cover 6000 years of the history of the area, from Penwith's awe-inspiring archaeological sites to the area's more recent social history. The museum displays reflect the unique and fascinating history of the area, including the local fishing and farming industries. Penlee House also has a collection of important paintings by the world-renowned Newlyn School group of artists who formed an art colony in this nearby fishing village in the 1880s.

By giving to the Friends of Penlee House, you are contributing to the preservation of Cornish heritage, ensuring that it is publicly accessible for future generations to enjoy.
