CHUMS provides mental health and emotional wellbeing support to over 3,000 children and their families in Luton and Bedfordshire every year. The children we meet need specialist support to help with anxiety, increase self-esteem and build resilience. We are united in the belief that all children and young people deserve the best we can give and we create tailor-made support with warmth and humanity to each and every child.

CHUMS offer clinical intervention in 1:1 sessions, group workshops, activity days, drop in sessions and parent/carer groups. All our services are free and confidential to children, young people and their families:

Bereavement Service – for those children who have lost a close family member or friend, often a parent or sibling

Stillbirth and Neonatal Bereavement Service – supporting parents and families following the death of a baby before, at birth or soon after birth

Trauma Service – for those children who have been traumatically bereaved such as by murder or suicide or other sudden or multiple deaths in the family

Non-Bereavement Trauma Service - for those children who have witnessed domestic violence or experienced sexual abuse

Emotional Wellbeing Service - to help those children with anxiety, suicidal thoughts, bullying, depression, phobias, anger, self-harm and other mental health difficulties

Recreational Therapeutic Service - for those children who have behavioural issues or anxiety and struggle to talk about how they feel

Young Carers Service - for those children who care for a parent or relative at home and need emotional support

Bedfordshire Suicide Bereavement Service – supporting individuals and families who have experienced suicide or suspected suicide

The CHUMS charity, Friends of CHUMS, supports those parts of the CHUMS service that receive no contractual funding. This includes the Stillbirth and Neonatal Bereavement Service, the Recreational Therapeutic Service, Crisis Response Service, our annual Remembrance Service for bereaved children and their families, respite activity sessions for the Young Carers Service and our Trauma Service.

With help from supporters, our experienced clinicians are able to provide the right support, at the right time, for each individual child ~ allowing them to go forward and reach their full potential.
