Who we are

Welcome to our fundraising page. We have chosen Virgin Money Giving as one of our safe and trusted ways to receive online donations.

Runners united in the face of youth homelessness

Running is as good for your mind as it is for your body. We have created a running-orientated programme for homeless and vulnerable young people. Engaging them in regular running-based activities, we harness the underlying benefits of the sport as a powerful motivational tool.

By using running and fitness, we're able to instil a positive mindset - fundamental in the path towards a healthy and productive lifestyle.

Meet Zamzam

Zamzam: Ex-Olympian, homeless refugee and now one of our graduates

Zamzam Farah was a flag-bearer and Women’s 400m runner at the London 2012 Olympics for her native Somalia. She had a passion for representing her country and for showing that women can, and should be able to, compete on an equal footing with men. But she became a refugee after receiving death threats for simply believing that women should be able to compete in sport.

She struggled to find somewhere to live in the UK and stopped training due to being unable to eat or sleep properly. It was while she was at a hostel that Zamzam was introduced to The Running Charity and began to take part in one of our running programmes for young people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.

Our work with her reignited her love for sport and her talent for running. We were immediately struck by her passion for running. It wasn’t long before Zamzam moved away from her hostel after she found employment and moved into private rented accommodation. To continue our support, The Running Charity paired her up with one of our mentors who continued our work with her.

Zamzam is a powerful and inspiring voice for women in sport and The Running Charity is proud to play a small but significant part in her story.

Join the family!

Group photo 50

Our community of runners started back in 2012 with just 12 young people experiencing homelessness who decided they could change their lives by running and embracing a healthy and active lifestyle. Little did they know they'd become more then just a team, closer then just friends, but a new found family.

Now our family is based all across the UK and we are always looking to make a difference wherever our help is needed. We'd love for you to join a our growing family by donating, running, volunteering or instructing.

Thank you for your generous support!
