Cherry Tree Nursery SWOP
Who we are
The Sheltered Work Opportunities Project is a registered charity set up in 1990 in response to the identified need for sheltered work rehabilitation in a supportive environment for adults with severe and enduring long-term mental health problems. 1 in 4 of the adult population experience a mental health problem at some time.
Cherry Tree Nursery, SWOP's first project, is now a successful retail and trade plant nursery which has grown from 4 volunteers and 2 acres in 1990 to 170 plus volunteers and 4.5 acres now. 700 Volunteers have been helped during the first 25 years.
The Nursery aims to provide a supportive family atmosphere and to cater for the needs of the individual. We hold Benefit Advice Clinics, Numeracy, Literacy, Computer, Budgeting and Cookery classes and offer a very wide range of help and support.
Volunteers work in all aspects of the Nursery and offices and the work varies from taking cuttings, potting and propagation, laying concrete paths, sending invoices and making the tea. Volunteers are also offered the opportunity to take part in social events, outings, holidays and day trips.
They can stay with us as long as they wish and need.
At Cherry Tree Nursery we believe that every single human being has the right to feel important and fulfilled in their lives and to be valued and needed. We aim to offer this as a right to every volunteer who attend the Nursery. We believe that by offering our volunteers love and respect they can regain their self-esteem and confidence and begin to feel of worth as human beings again.
