Killearn Malawi Group
Who we are
The Killearn Malawi Group is a small fundraising charity which aims to promote education and health in Malawi. Our fundraising is on-going through jumble sales, events and donations.
Our projects are many and varied. We have funded the building of the Jamieson House which is accommodation in Mzuzu to be used by visiting volunteers, and the women's craft centre at Hilltop where women come to learn knitting and other craft skills, as well as computing, to enable them to support themselves and their families. We have funded the repair of wells, the construction of a new bridge and the addition of a store room and toilets at the Kileni Nursery School. Most of these activities take place in the North of Malawi and through our main contacts there, the Reverend Levi Nyondo and his wife Ruth. We also collaborated with the Raven Trust. We send items for the Kileni School and the Women's Craft Centre through the Bananabox Trust.
We are working in partnership with communities in the extreme south of Malawi, at Muyang'anira in Nsanje District, where one of our committee members lived and worked. We have funded the drilling of a much needed borehole to increase access to clean water, helped families devastated by floods, and then drought, by supplying goats. We are also working with our partners in the area to build a new science/computer block at Nkhande Community Day Secondary School. We are a small group, but we are making a big impact in the communities where we work.
