The Bede Griffiths Charitable Trust was set up in 2003 to support projects in the very poor rural area around the Saccidananda and Ananda ashrams in Tamil Nadu, South India. The projects involve the provision of schools for 300 children, a home for the elderly, a day centre for the elderly, training centres for adults in computing, tailoring and typing, the provision of milk for the young and old and the provision of food and clothing for the elderly. The Trust spends less than 1% of its income on administration. It is named after an Englishman, Fr Bede Griffiths, who lived and taught at the Saccidananda Ashram for 25 years.
