Diane Modahl Sports Foundation
Who we are
DMSF was co-founded by Commonwealth Games gold medallist Diane Modahl MBE, who represented Great Britain in four Olympic Games from 1988 – 2000 and her husband Vicente Modahl in 2010. Her early experiences as a young person from a deprived community, inspired her to establish a youth foundation to help those most in need.
We want to give every young person living in inner-city Greater Manchester the opportunity to reach their best in sport, education and employment. We do this by using sport as a vehicle for change and inspiration, focussing on developing character and positve behaviours and empowring young people to fulfil their potential. We work with at risk young people on a daily basis. These children are coping with family breakdown, chaotic living environments and mental health problems which all affect their ability to devleop healthy relationships and social skills and engage with education. We are working with young people living in deprived areas where opportunities to thrive are limited.
Yet over the years we have seen young people come through our programme and succeed. We have developed our community hubs over the last 10 years and we now would like to significantly increas our provision in our School and community Hubs over the next 5 years.
Driven by our values of opportunity, integrity and resillience, we have a passionate team of coaches and mentors who deliver programmes for young people that tap into five main areas of development:
SPORT– Supporting Young People to achieve their potential
LIFE READINESS– Engaging disengaged Young People, particularly those at risk of
NEIGHBOURHOOD EMPOWERMENT– Helping to diversify sport through coaching and volunteering.
YOUTH CRIME REDUCTION– Preventing serious youth violence.
HEALTH– Improving the physical & mental health of children and young people.
We need your help please. We rely on building partnerships with like minded organisations and people like you, who want to make a positive impact on the community and contribute to local skills, training and education. This enables our team to go out and do what we do best. Turning barriers into opportunities to cross the DMSF Blue Line.
