Upper Teesdale Agricultural Support Services
Who we are
“Teesdale is the 2nd most sparsely populated district in England with 29 people per sq km compared to the national average in England of 295. Upper Teesdale Agricultural Support Services Ltd (UTASS) was developed during the early 1990’s in response to an epidemic of suicides locally. UTASS officially opened it's doors in May 2000.
UTASS works with and for the people of the Durham Dales to provide appropriate holistic and practical support services for isolated Hill Farmers, their families and the wider community.
A mixture of paid staff and volunteers offer 24/7 support and guidance for those in need, in an attempt to reduce isolation and assist Farmers in coming to terms with the rapid changes in agriculture.
UTASS works in partnership with other local service providers (including the local GP Practice) to maintain a safer, healthier, happier and self-sustaining community where we can all do our best to help prevent problems from getting to the desperate stage.”
