Freedom Community Alliance

Who we are

Freedom Community Alliance is a needs led charitable organisation who support the vulnerable and socially excluded in our local community of North Devon. Where we see a need in our local community we work to address it. We work with a range of clients and partners to concentrate on issues related to poverty and debt, homelessness, addiction, mental and physical health issues, unemployment and social exclusion.

As a Christian charity, we believe everyone has value and with love and support can be helped to reach their own potential. We provide a holistic approach to work on people’s issues and we recognise that each individual’s problems are often intertwined and complicated. We provide non-judgemental support that allows each person to find solutions that work and help them to regain control of their lives.

Our Day Centre is our first point of contact for most clients and partners. On average we help between 60 and 90 people each day; in a year we help more than 1,000 people with their problems, serve over 10,000 hot meals and 30,000 hot drinks.

Within our Day Centre we provide: Open access day services including meals, clothing, showers, laundry service, TV Lounge and recreation, support and advice, referrals and signposting to other partner agencies, advice and assistance to access housing as well as a supportive social environment.

Our Supported Housing provides safe houses for vulnerable people. We currently run 5 houses that provide secure homes for 21 people.

Our Therapeutic Community allows men to receive treatment for their addictions in a community that enables them to learn the reasons for their behaviours and the impact that their choices have on themselves and others, which in turn guides them to make positive changes.

Healthy living and fitness is promoted through our fully equipped gym and supported by our full time fitness professional who is able to assist with personalised fitness programmes and healthy eating diaries.

We support people back in to work with our Meaningful Occupation programmes and social enterprise businesses that allow for both volunteering and on the job work experience. Our computer suite with internet access and Digital Inclusion tutor allows people to build their computer skills and apply for jobs online.
