the cooperation band

Who we are

Formed in 1918, the cooperation band has been making music in concert and in contest for more than 100 years. Over that time, it has proved to be the most successful band in the history of Scottish brass band music. The band has won the Scottish Championships 32 times and, during the 1990's, twice carried back to Scotland the National Championship of Great Britain - the only Scottish band ever to have won this prestigious championship.

The key aims of the band as a charity are to:

Promote public appreciation and understanding of brass band music and to stimulate interest in the art of brass band playing for the benefit of the public generally and especially members of the Co-operative Movement.

Promote the education and training of people of all ages, in the playing of brass instruments and their appreciation of brass band music.

We seek to bring a wide variety of music, from traditional brass band repertoire, through orchestral transcription and contemporary compositions to audiences of all ages. We also seek to encourage participation by a new generation of brass musicians through welcoming some of Scotland's finest young talent to our ranks.

We are supported by sponsorship and through our own fundraising activities and concerts. Please help us to maintain and develop our high standard of music making and continued development of young brass musicians.
