When five year old, Rosie Larkin, lost her battle against cancer in 1991, her family and friends were determined to carry on the fight to help other children affected by cancer.

Treatment for children with cancer is very intensive, at a time when their young bodies are still growing. Research is urgently needed to find less damaging and more effective treatment methods.

Because childhood cancer is not as common as adult cancer, children’s cancer research does not attract large commercial or pharmaceutical funding. And that’s where Friends of Rosie’s role is key.

We provide start-up funding to local medical institutions in the Manchester area to research the many different aspects of childhood cancer. This research then goes on to attract further funding from the major cancer research charities, inform clinical trials, and ultimately improve the diagnosis, treatment and outlook for children with cancer. Without that first bit of help to get them off the ground, many research projects would never even get started, meaning critical breakthroughs in research being left undiscovered.

You can help us win the fight against childhood cancer by getting involved now.
