Who we are
City Harvest helps put surplus food to good use in a sustainable way, by distributing to organisations that feed the hungry.
In London today, more than 2 million people experience hunger regularly. In one of the wealthiest cities in the world, 80% of teachers have worked with children too hungry to learn.
Despite this prevalence of hunger, tons of healthy food are being disposed of as waste daily by supermarkets, restaurants, manufacturers and other food businesses. City Harvest collects this nutritious surplus food and delivers to organisations such as homeless shelters and soup kitchens that provide meals to vulnerable people.
To date, City Harvest has rescued 1000 tons of perfectly edible food from going to landfill where it would have decomposed and released 3000 tons of noxious greenhouse gases. The food City Harvest redistributed was used to prepare 2 million nutritious meals for vulnerable people at community meal programs all around London. The charities that received City Harvest food were able to reduce their food budgets and redirect limited funds to other vital services.
Every £10 raised for City Harvest helps rescue food that served almost 50 nutritious meals to those in need
Every £10 results in £60 of direct social impact to charities that receive City Harvest food.
