JCMT provides quality training for young people in mountaineering, by offering subsidised courses coordinated by professional British Mountain Guides.

On an annual basis we offer Scottish Winter Courses in the Cairngorms, Alpine Preparation weekend in Wales, and Alpine Mountaineering courses in Chamonix. Preference is given to men and women between the ages of 18-29 years who would otherwise be unable to afford such training and instruction.

We are supported by the British Mountaineering Council (BMC) and Scottish Mountaineering Trust (SMT), and Mountain Training Trust (MTT) at Plas y Brenin who carry out the administration and oversee the courses.

Sir Chris Bonington CBE and Andy Cave are our patrons, and the board of trustees work on a voluntary basis, and have done so for 35 years.

Our aim is to keep young people safe in the mountains.
