Who we are
1 in 4 adults and 1 in 8 children and young people have a medically diagnosed mental illness. This doesn’t account for those who are struggling in silence. The Creative Mental Health Charity PoetsIN do more than just signpost and won’t turn anyone away – minds matter – and we appreciate how hard it is to reach out for help.
The Creative Mental Health Charity PoetsIN was created for people struggling with their mental health by people who have struggled with theirs. They have been changing lives for well over 4 years and have been a charity over 3 - and have now been providing workshops to Shaw Trust for nearly 2 years.
Both co founders have lived experience of mental illness. Paul struggled with depression and anxiety since he was a child, using unhealthy coping mechanisms to deal with it for two decades. Sammie still feels the mental health repercussions of her childhood and now manages her depression and general anxiety disorder by helping others.
We have a number of services available to cater for the needs of individuals and organisations, regardless of their location across the globe. It is our aim to help as many people as possible with their mental wellbeing – educating, empowering, understanding, and inspiring everyone to keep their minds healthy.
We have worked with thousands of people and 99% of them have seen an improvement in their lives, including a reduction in symptoms of depression and anxiety. We will continue our work across the UK, with a keen focus on reducing self-harm and preventing suicide through workshops, online community and our listening service.
