Open Door St Albans Charity
Who we are
Open Door St Albans Charity was set up to help the homeless and vulnerable in St Albans.
The Open Door Charity works to ensure that no-one need sleep rough in St Albans and to improve the life chances of homeless people in our community. In addition we work with other local charities and services to provide help to people at risk of homelessness.
We opened the St Albans’ night shelter in 1993 and led the development of the Open Door accommodation and drop-in centre at Bricket Road, St Albans.
Homelessness is far more than not having a roof over your head. A home provides you with physical and emotional security, and often close human contact. When a home is lost, these things are taken away and this makes it a crisis that most people find difficult to manage. People can become homeless for lots of different reasons, often in circumstances beyond their control. Relationship breakdown, redundancy, addictions and coming out of prison can all lead to people needing help from the Open Door facility.
