Samaritans of Buxton and High Peak

Who we are

Samaritans vision is to live in a world where fewer people die by suicide. We offer people a safe space to talk about what they're going through, whenever they need it, at any time of the day or night.

Our branch has been providing confidential emotional support to people since 1975 and we rely entirely on volunteers to operate our help lines and to raise the £14,000 needed every year to keep our branch open.

The Buxton and High Peak branch covers a large geographical area and is supported by volunteers from all over the High Peak. They respond to phone calls at all hours of the day and night as well as answering text messages and emails. We also go out into the community when we can.

In May 2019, 2 amazing people - Rob and Martha - ran a 62-mile ultra marathon from London to Brighton and raised £2,484.74

In July 2019, 5 of our branch members either walked or cycled the length of the High Peak Trail from Ashbourne to Parsley Hey and back. Together they raised £3,109.89

A number of lovely people got together to raise fund for us in lots of different ways:

  •  Marty, Baz & Adrian ran 100km during July
  • Anne and her dog Nell walked the 26.2 miles Samarathon distance around the local area
  • Alan had his luscious locks cut off
  • The Shakespeare Jukebox (as part of the Buxton Festival) asked their online audience for donations to Samaritans
  • Aneta cycled the Coast to Coast route

Together these people raised an amazing £5,379.79!
