Support Arts Gardening Education (SAGE)
Homepage
At Support Arts Gardening Education (SAGE) we promote the mental and physical well-being of adults experiencing mental health problems via the provision of creative therapeutic activities.
SAGE Greenfingers is our core horticulture service based on Grimesthorpe allotments in Burngreave in inner-city Sheffield. It was set up in 2004 and now spans 5 beautiful allotments.
We offer a friendly, accessible local group, promoting positive mental and physical wellbeing and welcoming men and women of all ages and origins. Those attending our sessions benefit from getting out of the house, getting exercise in the fresh air, meeting other people with similar experiences, making new friends and by losing themselves in activities which help them forget their problems.
SAGE Greenfingers is about more than just gardening. The project offers:
- Improvement in mental health
- The opportunity to make new friends
- Helpful, understanding staff and volunteers
- A chance to learn new skills and increase your gardening knowledge
- Healthy home-grown food, with the opportunity to help cook and learn new recipes
- Year round projects, such as art and photography courses
- Help with arranging transport, if you need it

SAGE Singing Through the Seasons is our women-only singing project on a termly basis throughout the year. This friendly, informal group is open to people of any singing ability.
We begin with group-building activities and move onto singing warm-ups, including physical relaxation, breathing and gentle vocal exercises. Then we learn simple songs in parts. As part of this process, we encourage sharing and discussion, so that people get the chance to be part of the group and widen their social networks.
