The Basement Advisory Centre
Who we are
The Basement Advisory Centre has been operating as a registered charity in Liverpool since 1999. Originally set up to offer evening drop in services to Rough Sleepers within the city, our home was a small basement near Lime Street station and this formed the name of the organisation. After delivering the service from there for twelve years we were able to create a purpose-built building in the centre of Liverpool.
We offer a person - centred and holistic approach in providing interventions, harm reduction and lifestyle change to those who are most vulnerable within our community. Many of our staff have lived experience of addiction allowing them to truly empathise with a client’s issues and where needed, offer advice based on their own recovery journey. Every member of staff including our board of trustees has received specialist training in using our strengths based approach, as we apply this to how we run our organisation, not just in the work we do with our clients.
What we offer differs from traditional support, which relies on needs and risks assessment to set goals defined usually around a narrow grouping of areas, such as maintaining tenancy, reducing substance misuse, offending behaviour, improving physical and mental health or mediating family relationships. In other words, what success looks like in a strengths based and personalised approach is therefore fundamentally different. There are no limits to the outcomes people might choose to identify and work on and their journey to achieve change that matters to them is entirely self directed.
