MONTROSE - Britain’s first operational military airfield. Montrose is an aviation heritage site of international significance which goes back to the pioneering days of manned flight. On 26th February 1913 aircraft of the Royal Flying Corps arrived from Farnborough having made an epic flight of 460 miles. Let's not forget that this was less than 10 years after the Wright brothers first historic powered flight.

The Heritage Centre is a remarkable example of what can be achieved using the energy, imagination, skills and knowledge of ordinary members of the community. Over the last few years, the Heritage Centre has become one of the fastest growing independent museums in Scotland run entirely by volunteers.

Every effort is made to keep admission prices as low as possible. Unlike a lot of other museums, we never charge admission for children as we appreciate how important it is that they learn, in an enjoyable way, the history and legacy of those who served at Montrose Air Station.

The Heritage Centre is a totally independent accredited museum, receiving no money other than grants for specific projects, it relies entirely on the money received from visitor admissions and donations to keep the doors open.
