The Stockport Canal Boat Trust For Disabled People
Who we are
Stockport Canal Boat Trust provides full day or half day trips along the Macclesfield and Peak Forest canals for people with disabilities, from their base in Marple, on the modified canal boat 'New Horizons'.
The charity was awarded the Queen's Award for Voluntary Service in 2016. The Mayor of Stockport, L. Gordon Bayley MBE created the project, raised the funds and designed 'New Horizons' which was launched by HRH Prince Charles in 1981.
'New Horizons' is 70 feet long and is fully accessible to wheelchair users via its hydraulic lift. On board are two heated comfortable lounges, toilet, shop, fully equipped galley kitchen and a front viewing platform.
The charity operates each year from April until October and is operated by volunteers with just one employee - the boat's skipper.
