The Watson Hall (Institute) is Castle Carrock's village hall - and it needs some repairs. We are hosting and organising a number of fundraising activities in 2019 to enable this to happen. We are aiming to raise £10,000 during 2019. We have lots of events planned - more info can be found at www.castlecarrock.com .

On Bank Holiday Monday May 6th we are hosting the Great Castle Carrock Sponsored Walk.

There will be 3 different walks for you to choose from, all of which are on public rights of way, lanes or regularly used tracks. All will begin and end at The Watson Institute. All will be self-guided with a lead person and paper guides provided:

Walk 1 - 2 miles (around the reservoir, so level and buggy friendly-ish)

Walk 2 - 4 miles (to the end of the reservoir then up round Nixon Head and the back of Tottergill)

Walk 3 - 12 miles (to the end of the reservoir then through the fields to Cumrew and Newbiggin and then back across Cumrew Fell via the new bridge across Old Water and Jockey Shield).

  • There will be teas served for all finishers.
  • All money raised is for the hall repair fund.
  • There will be a pre walk registration fee to cover costs and to help us plan – this will also earn you a free slice of cake and drink once you have finished.
  • We would love you to get as much sponsorship as possible on top of that.
  • We have set up an online sponsorship account which you can link to or we can provide you with traditional sponsorship forms to fill in.
  • To raise sponsorship money online, please click on the link to the top right called "start fundraising". You'll need to set up an account if you haven't got one already - it's quick and easy to do.
  • Both Cartmell Shepherd solicitors and Cotswold World are sponsoring the walks – there will a £50 voucher awarded to the adult who gains the most sponsorship and a £50 voucher to the young person (Under 16) who gains the most sponsorship. We are grateful to them for their generous sponsorship.
  • After careful consultation, we have taken the decision that we can’t let dogs, however well behaved, come along on Walks 2 or 3 because of lambing and cattle being present.

To register, for more information, or for a paper sponsorship form, please contact Tom Speight on 01228 670054 or mrtomsp8@gmail.com.
