Dementia Friendly Keighley
Who we are
Dementia Friendly Keighley (DFK) had its inaugural AGM in January 2015 and since then has been working hard to put plans in place to change the way communities in Keighley think, talk and act about dementia. In 2017 we became a registered Charity.
As well as raising awareness, we also do lots of fundraising to enable us to provide services and activities for people living with dementia. We deliver a much needed weekly Respite & Reminiscence session for carers of people with dementia. The sessions are full of fun and deliver appropriate and interactive activities.
We also organise a singing group, The Singing Teapot and run a weekly seated exercise class for people with memory problems. Earlier this year we started a weekly social evening at local pub The Brown Cow for people with dementia and their carers. We are starting a Tai Chi class and continue to set up new sessions with the money we collect through fundraising.
All these groups are great fun and provide some valuable ‘let your hair down’ time for all. We have had some lovely friendships form from these groups and our carers tell us how supported they feel and how much less isolated they have become since joining us.
With the support of people and organisations like yourself, the funds raised play a crucial part in ensuring such services are maintained and help DFK to reduce isolation, encourage active participation and most importantly, have fun.
So from all at DFK and the people we support, a very huge THANK YOU for raising funds, we truly appreciate every penny.
