Who we are
Helping healing happen
Hello! We are ACTS FAST and we are passionate about supporting families in some of their most desperate hours of need. We support families in times when it can feel like their whole lives have fallen apart.
That’s because we support families through one of the most horrific things that can happen to a family: discovering that one of them has been sexually abused as a child. It’s not an easy topic, but let’s be honest – we’d all rather have a trained and experienced team to come alongside us if the worst should happen.
So, we do exactly that: we support families who have a child (young person or grown adult) who have been affected by some sort of sexual abuse. We support the family around the person because we know that they simply won’t get support from anyone else.
Our strategy for support
We love families (of all shapes and sizes!) and so everything we do is all about making sure the non-offending family members have the emotional and therapeutic support to help them recover and experience post traumatic growth. From one to one and sessional support, we come alongside the family to help them be equipped for every part of their journey to grow again and be strengthened.
Our support is family focused, so we often support parents or carers with the skills they might need to deal with sometimes quite challenging or unusual behaviour. By helping the whole family understand what’s perhaps happening inside sometimes brain in response to a major trauma, we find we can equip the family to be stronger and lessen the burden of the events impact. We know we can’t un-do what has happened, but we can equip and encourage families to move forwards and thrive again.
In it for the long haul
Our support is unique because we support families in both the immediate crisis, as well as long in the future; sometimes for the years to come. Families often recover really well, but years later they might want just a bit of extra support or some encouragement to help them get back on track. We’ll stand alongside them to show them creative solutions and help equip them with the tools to thrive again.
If we’re the right team to provide the support, and as long as we’re still going, we’ll never close the door on supporting families who need our help.
