Who we are
Educators International (EI) supports system-level education change in poor countries by providing UK expert advice at low cost, through highly qualified volunteer consultants.
We head-hunt experienced professional educators and managers willing to volunteer their time for free, and match them to developing countries’ needs for advice and expertise.
We work across all phases, from early childhood to secondary, vocational and university levels.
If our volunteers need to travel abroad, we make all necessary arrangements, and the local government meets the out-of-pocket costs. They may also provide continuing support from the UK.
EI’s unique feature is our ability at minimal cost to transfer system-level education expertise across continents. The knowledge transfer goes both ways, because our volunteers’ involvement in key education reforms overseas enriches the UK education system.
We are highly active just now in Ghana having developed two highly innovative programmes which have been piloted and are now bing rolled out via the Ghana Education Service, namely Phonics by Phone and Assessment for Progress. The former is a complete course of audio podcasts designed for initial or in-service teacher training for early literacy, delivered directly to the simple feature phone which such teachers in Ghana already have. The second is a programme of teacher-led assessment of pupils' reading ability, calibrated to international stndard tests but conducted by individual class teachers, enabling validation of small steps of progress.
All we do in Ghana is completely replicable and we are now rolling out the same prograame in India.
