Your support has never been more important to Action on Addiction as we respond to the serious challenges facing people in the grip of addiction during the coronavirus pandemic and prepare for an escalation in demand when social distancing ends. Unlike coronavirus, addiction thrives on isolation and, as people throughout the UK stay home, individuals and families struggling with addiction need our help more than ever.

The problems associated with addiction were growing in both volume and complexity well before COVID 19. Individuals and families face numerous barriers to accessing the treatment and support they need. This situation has been exacerbated by the pandemic, especially for people who cannot obtain funding for treatment.

Our residential treatment centre Clouds House remains open to provide the same high standard of life saving addictions treatment during the Coronavirus outbreak that we have been offering our clients for almost 40 years. SHARP (Self Help Addiction Recovery Programme) in Liverpool and Essex remain staffed and are supporting people in the community.

It is essential that we remain active during the COVID 19 crisis to provide lifesaving help for those who need it now, and to be ready for the surge in demand anticipated once the pandemic recedes.

More than ever before, the bursary funding made possible by your generous donations and extraordinary fundraising activities is needed so we can continue to help those who cannot access funding.

Action on Addiction exists to help people achieve recovery from all forms of addiction, regardless of whether they can afford to pay for treatment or not. We are amazed and humbled by the lengths so many people go to for our charity.

Much of our work is funded directly by supporters and donors, including, though not limited to, marathon runners, a community of bikers, global trekkers, yearlong challengers, cake bake sellers, local fete and gala event organisers and attendees, and individuals with personal experience of addiction. The extraordinary efforts of all these groups of people mean we can provide treatment to more people than ever before, and design new evidence-based services that respond to changing needs of people and families suffering with addiction.

Action on Addiction was formed in 2007 from the merger of three charities. One of these three charities, Clouds, was established in 1983 and is now one of the longest standing and best-known addiction treatment centres in the UK. For over 35 years, our experts have been providing life-saving treatment to individuals in active addiction, and for every person we help, another five people are also helped indirectly.

Over 12,000 people have found the chance of recovery from addiction at Clouds, and today our Care Quality Commission reports are among the best in the country. Also, independent evaluation of our community recovery service in Essex shows that almost 80% of our clients did not return to any treatment service following completion of our programme.

Meanwhile, our Moving Parents and Children Together Programme (M-PACT) focuses on some of the protective factors which are believed to build resilience within families. M-PACT, the subject of a 12-year evaluation report, has been shown to facilitate wide-ranging positive changes for families, even those with multiple, complex and long-standing problems.

Please help us to save more lives by supporting Action on Addiction today.
