Bansang Hospital Appeal
Who we are
The object of the Bansang Hospital Appeal is to provide material, financial & in-kind support to the hospital & the people of the surrounding area. The projects focus area is the Central & Upper River regions of The Gambia, West Africa. The hospital serves 500,000 people, many of whom travel from as far as Mali, Guinea & Senegal. The Bansang Hospital Appeal assists through the ongoing provision of medical equipment, pharmaceuticals, humanitarian aid, along with the sponsorship of 47 staff and volunteers from the UK.
We have built & equipped an 80 bed children's unit, including seperate medical, and surgical wards,malnutrition, neonatal & play therapy rooms.
We have sent 50 containers of supplies to include medical equipment & pharmaceuticals.
Renovated & extended the old children's ward to provide a ground floor 43 bed female ward.
Pharmacy department refurbished, and extended to provide an extensive covered seating area.
Main operating theatre has been refurbished, two additional theatres & an obstetric theatre built.
Sustainable hospital cooking facility.New sewers & sanitary ware throughout the hospital.
New build maintenance unit.
Converted the old female ward into a conference centre & administration offices.
Provision of 8 oxen, 2 tractors trailer & farm implements to support the innovative hospital farming project.
Re-wired entire hospital and installed LED lighting.
Provided a new 100 KVA Perkins generator.
Retention of staff is an urgent requirement & the key to the ongoing success of the hospital. We are addressing this urgent need in phases, with the current capital expenditure projects focussing upon the provision of decent staff accommodation. To this end, we have refurbished 47 staff units, along with the complete renovation of the old colonial house that includes 12 bedsitting rooms 2 guest suites and 3 self contained flats. as well as a community hall & library. The charity places a keen emphasis upon long-term project sustainability.
