Who we are
The BLD Foundation is a registered charity and its aim is the advancement of education for those of African, Asian, Caribbean and other ethnic minority and/or those from socio-economically underprivileged backgrounds.
The Foundation is changing lives and transforming businesses by its focus on talent, diversity and social mobility by supporting young people towards achieving their fullest potential.
BLD FOUNDATION WORKOur flagship Legal Gateway Scheme runs nationally with particular focus on London, Birmingham, Manchester and Leeds. We work very closely with schools and universities. We are hugely grateful to the support of our sponsors, donors and supporters without whom we could not run our programmes.
The Legal Gateway Scheme has four distinct programmes catering to the needs of different groups of young people at different stages in their personal and academic development:
Today’s Children Tomorrow’s Lawyers (TCTL) programme is for those in secondary schools as well as Sixth Form Colleges in years 9-13 (typically aged 13-19 years). The purpose of this programme is to raise awareness
First Headstart (FH) for first year Law and second year non-law undergraduates. It provides an insight into graduate recruitment requirements and equip participants with information and basic skills about their next steps.
Legal Launch Pad (LLP) for second and third year undergraduates as well as postgraduates. It is a structured nine-month programme that includes intensive training workshops, one-to-one mentoring and work placement. Its purpose is to provide career and personal development to the participants and to provide organisations with the support to widen access by tapping into a more diverse talent pool.
The Make a Difference Be the Difference(MDBD) programme focus in on mentoring for those aged 18 and above. This is a standalone 12 month mentoring programme that provides career and personal development
