"I've never done anything like this before... and I'm having the best time ever!" - Child, summer 2017

Campus provides free-of-charge holidays for disadvantaged children from Liverpool and neighbouring areas of Merseyside who are referred by Liverpool Social Services or Barnardo’s, on the basis that they would benefit from respite from extremely challenging home lives.  Every summer, we provide over 150 children with the opportunity to build friendships, try new activities, increase their self-esteem, and, ultimately, simply enjoy being children.

We run four annual holiday projects:

  • Residential Project – a week-long activity holiday for 8-13 year olds, based in a rural location, which runs for up to 5 weeks during the school summer holidays.  The project comprises a structured programme of activities, which are typically active and outdoors-based in nature.  Popular activities include beach visits, skating, cycling, horse riding, campfires, trampolining – and much more!
  • Hippocampus – a week-long day camp for 6-9 year-olds and older children who would benefit from its non-residential element.  This is held in Liverpool concurrently to Residential.  Activities include farm visits, parties, swimming and a maize maze.
  • Young Helper Project – A residential training weekend for our 14/15 year old leavers who demonstrated greatest leadership potential during their time as children on Campus, following the successful completion of which they are invited on Campus projects as supported volunteers (“Young Helpers”).
  • Winter Project – A reunion, held in Liverpool between Christmas and New Year, during which each cohort of children from summer is invited back for a day of activities.

Once children have attended a Campus project, they are invited every year until they turn 13, providing them with a sense of continuity which is frequently lacking within their home lives.  Feedback from parents/carers, children and social workers is consistently positive; in 2017, 95% of children stated that they enjoyed their Campus holiday.  ur projects are consistently oversubscribed, demonstrating the high level of need for our services.

Campus has no paid staff, benefiting from over 25,000 volunteer hours per year at all levels of the charity’s operation.  Our administration costs are extremely low, accounting for only 5% of annual expenditure.  We charge nothing to families or social services for children to attend.  As a small charity, all donations have a real impact on our capacity to deliver much-needed holidays to the vulnerable children with whom we work, so we are very grateful for your support.
