iprovision is the Benevolent Fund of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR) and was set up in 1965 by a small group of members to help colleagues in need.

Since then, we have supported hundreds of institute members and their families battling illness, disability, unemployment or bereavement.

Examples of members’ stories

 Geoff, aged 53

Geoff, a senior PR practitioner, was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis some years ago. He was able to work until last year when he was off on long term sick and on reduced pay.  Now in a wheelchair and dependent on hour-to-hour care from his wife and two carers at set times during the day.  iprovision provided a grant of £1,300 to allow his wife a short respite break, knowing Geoff was being well cared for in a specialist residential centre.

“The iprovision grant was invaluable help to me and my wife”

 Heather, aged 59

Heather has MS.  As her condition deteriorated she had to give up work and her income drastically reduced.

A one off grant of £600 was given to make Heather's home more suitable for her needs.

“Thank you for the fantastic news.  It was wonderful to wake up to your call this morning.   I am so very grateful to you and everyone who has made this possible.”

Abigail

Member diagnosed with cancer and contacted iprovision because of concerns about paying the household bills as her income dropped due to time off work because of her illness.

“I don’t know where I would be without the support from iProvision.  The financial help I received gave me some choices, and allowed me to focus on getting through my fairly gruelling treatment - and then recovery - without money worries.

“I have been a member of the CIPR for many years, getting involved in some of the groups, but I hadn't realised how much support there was for members when times get tough.

Iprovision is a wonderful initiative.”

In addition to a voluntary donations collected at the time of CIPR subscription renewals, we are funded through the generosity of the institute’s regional and sectoral groups who raise money on our behalf – as well as by donations and bequests.

But there is still much to be done and we urge everyone working in the PR sector to think about how they might be able to help colleagues less fortunate than themselves.

Partnering with Virgin Money Giving gives us additional online tools to make donating to iprovision easier and quicker than ever before – and don’t forget that through the Gift Aid scheme we can recover basic rate income tax, making your donations worth an additional 25 pence per pound donated.
