Who we are
KICS works in Kashare sub-county, SW Uganda focusing on the needs of the poorest and most vulnerable through capacity building, education and welfare.
One-fifth of the population of 23,000 people living in Kashare live below the extreme poverty line and there are many orphans and vulnerable children living in the poorest households. A third of children do not finish primary school, and a third of women are functionally illiterate. Your Donations will directly benefit our project work in Uganda:
Our charity started with a family connection between the UK and Kanaama in Kashare sub-county in 2009 and continues with an entirely voluntary team in the UK. It is a UK-registered charity and works in partnership with a local organisation, KICS Uganda.
In 2020 our work in Uganda was severely disrupted by Covid-19 with schools and markets closed and meetings limited. We responded with food welfare parcels, soap, water carriers and seeds for families taking part in our projects and for an additional 100 needy families. We also provide solar-powered radios to help children continue their education with lessons broadcast on the radio.
Now in 2021, schools have reopened for some children, although they won't be fully open for all until August. Our other projects have restarted following sanitary and social distancing guidelines. Our work goes on.
Please help us to support the people of Kashare.
