Leeds Asylum Seekers’ Support Network (LASSN) aim is to find ways in which volunteers can support, empower and integrate asylum seekers, refugees and other migrants, to help them build a life which is safe and free of persecution.

We helps asylum seekers, refugees and other migrants at risk of harm to find somewhere to stay, to learn English and to make friends in Leeds.

Our 260 volunteers help around 300 individuals each year in a variety of different ways:

  • Hosts offer a destitute asylum seeker a room in their house for a few nights, until they can get something else sorted.
  • Volunteer Tutors visit asylum seekers and refugees who can't access mainstream English classes, and teach them English in their own Homes.
  • Our Befriending volunteers meet up with refugees, asylum seekers and other migrants to help them make friends and connections, and to help them to settle into their new home, to integrate and to find work.

We also use our the knowledge and experience we've built up to provide accurate and reliable information and share this as widely as possible via helpinleeds.com (a directory of free support services for migrants in Leeds) and migrationpartnership.org.uk (an information sharing blog about migration in Leeds).

We are also active members of Migrant English Support Hub, West Yorkshire Destitution Network (WYDAN), and the No Accommodation Network (NACCOM).
