Seeds of Peace UK
Who we are
Since 1993, Seeds of Peace has inspired and cultivated new generations of global leaders in communities divided by conflict. We equip them with the skills and relationships they need to accelerate social, economic, and political changes essential for peace. With nearly 7,000 Seeds and Educators from 27 countries, they are at the heart of everything we do, as it is their realities and futures that are most affected by the conflicts that define their lives. Seeds of Peace UK is dedicated to expanding our charity's footprint in the UK.
Every year, Seeds of Peace UK runs a number of activities to engage its growing local community and stakeholders, including film screenings, academic lectures, writing workshops, alumni showcase events, and an annual family activity in London's parks known as "Bridges to Peace." This year's "Bridges to Peace" is scheduled for the afternoon of Sunday, September 23. Our annual London Reception will be held on Wednesday, November 19. For more information about either event or to RSVP, please contact Matt Courey at firstname.lastname@example.org or Jason Drucker at email@example.com.
Each summer, hundreds of teenagers and educators, including youth from the UK, engage with each other across lines of conflict—sharing meals, living spaces, and learning experiences in a traditional summer camp program. During daily dialogue sessions guided by professional facilitators, campers confront each other over competing historical narratives, share personal experiences of conflict, and tackle topics that fuel oppression, hatred, and violence in and between their communities. It is here that personal and interpersonal change begins, as perceptions and attitudes shift in the face of a new reality they create at Camp.
There are now nearly 7,000 Graduate Seeds and Educators, and post-Camp we build on their new-found understanding through arranging year-round leadership programs, especially in Israel, Palestine, Jordan, Egypt, Pakistan, India, United Kingdom, and United States that focus on four of the most important assets and abilities that leaders in conflict regions need to create meaningful change: strong relationships across lines of conflict; a sophisticated understanding of core conflict issues; practical skills in communication, critical thinking, and change-making; and the ability to take action on behalf of peace.
Seeds of Peace accelerates the impact and influence of our alumni and other changemakers who are taking action to transform conflict in and between their communities. We do this with our GATHER Convenings and GATHER Fellowship. Our alumni are having an impact far beyond their families, schools, and peers. As they gain influence in their socieites - shaping policy and the media, starting companies and non-profits, and leading classrooms and civil society institutions - they are increasinlgy positioned to challenge the ideologies, policies, and practices that perpetuate conflict.
In May 2018, for the first time ever, Seeds of Peace launched a dialogue and leadership seminar for a diverse group of teens who live in the UK. This small, intimate group of young leaders got an opportunity to engage in intensive dialogues about issues that affect their daily lives in the UK. We anticipate running the program again in 2019.
