Samaritans Southampton And District Branch
Who we are
Samaritans Southampton & District
Samaritans provide confidential, non-judgemental emotional support, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for people who are experiencing feelings of distress or despair, including those that could lead to suicide.
Samaritans Southampton & District currently provide this service by telephone and email, and since Samaritans was declared an essential service at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, we have been busier than ever, answering in the region of 1,100 telephone calls and 170 emails each month in our branch alone.
Our branch is entirely self-funded and manned entirely by volunteers who not only provide our service but also recruit and train our volunteers, maintain our facilities and building, and provide outreach services in the community and within schools and other educational establishments.
However, the pandemic has severely impacted our ability to raise the vital funds needed to cover the cost of running our branch, without which we cannot operate.
We dont receive any statutoy funding and depend entirely on public and business donations. All donations - whatever the amount - are gratefully received, and you can be assured that all money is used to ensure our serice to callers is maintained.
