Special Friends Club
Who we are
Special Friends Club is a charity operating throughout the wider Bristol area and run by parent volunteers. The charity provides support for families of children with special needs by organizing a range of activities and social opportunities that can be shared and enjoyed by the whole family.
The club has a membership of 145 families with over 280 children whose ages range from 3-18 years. The children have a diagnosed disability which inhibits them accessing mainstream actvities and venues.
Due to the nature of their disabilities it is difficult and sometimes impossible for the children and their families to attend and take part in ‘mainstream’ holiday activities or attend visitor attractions.
Families feedback that it is vital "To be in an environment where you are surrounded by ‘normal’ families who don’t face the same challenges can be very hard and emotionally testing, but knowing that you are there with a group of families with similar problems is hugely supportive".
The Club’s guiding principle is to provide a safe, stimulating and supportive environment for all our members.
