Steamship Freshspring Trust
Who we are
The Steamship Freshspring Society was set up as a charity to support maritime heritage, utilising a nationally recognised heritage steamship to inspire young people into engineering and seafaring careers.
SS Freshspring is a unique small coasting steamship and represents the type of ships which plied their trade around the coast of Britain from late 19th century to the 1960's. SS Freshspring is the last potentially operational example of these ships. The trust has aims to promote careers in the maritime sector and in engineering. We work with young people from primary age, through to University or whilst in employment. We have an additional focus to inspire disadvantaged young people and to provide skills required to enter rewarding employment.
The ship is based in Bideford, Devon and regularly open to the public. A dedicated team of volunteers are progressively restoring the ship which will ultimately be returned to operation to carry passengers and deliver education on a national basis.
