The Seahorse Trust
Who we are
The Seahorse Trust was set up to conserve and preserve Seahorses through studying them in the wild, in captivity and through education. We have already made a big difference by getting both types of British Seahorses protected under the Wildlife and Countryside Act and with your help we can do more.
Seahorses are endangered in the wild for a number of reasons such as habitat loss and worse still the Traditional Medicine Trade where in excess of 150 million (ref: Kealan Doyle SOS)are taken from the sea every year.
Here at the trust we aim to make a difference for Seahorses, for the marine environment and for the future of our planet, the more that is donated the more we can do. So please dig deep, put on an event to raise funds and lets all make a change for the better in our marine world.
We have just launched the Stop the Curio Trade Campaign (more on our website) to try and stop the sale of curios in seaside 'shell shops'. Launched in July 2015 this campaign is already making a difference and gives the public a chance to directly get involved in the conservation of seahorses and other marine and terrestrial species by becoming undercover reporters. They can go into shops (peacefully), takes notes and pictures and report them to us and we will compile a databse of the species sold and report the shops where relevant. The data will be compiled into a report to be presented to the authorities to make this barbaric trade a thing of the past.
The work of the trust can only be done because of our amazing team of volunteers and through our partnership approach with other organisations. Our motto WORKING IN PARTNERSHIP WITH NATURE encompasses everything about The Seahorse trust and its appraoch to conservation.
Please get involved and put on an event to support our work, without you we cannot makes big changes, which is what we are aiming to do. THANK YOU.
