We are a charity registered in 2012 to support people in Berkshire who develop dementia under the age of 65.

It is estimated that the incidence of dementia in this age group is one in every thousand – which, at this time, equates to around 240 people in West Berkshire alone – many of whom are unknown to local service providers.

The needs of younger people with dementia (under 65 years of age) and their carers differ greatly from older people as the pattern, progression and burden of illness are all different, which is where we come in.

We have an innovative approach to respite care.  As well as our one to one service, we run a series of age appropriate workshops which offer meaningful activity.  Each session or workshop is tailor-made to the individuals who attend and this enables people to continue to enjoy participating in activities and being involved in the community.

A choir was established in September 2012.  There have been several concerts which have been very much enjoyed both by choir members and audience.

The workshops run on a rolling programme of 6-8 weeks to try to accommodate everybody's interests.  They have included physical activities such as dancing, running and katacanoeing as well as gardening, photography and local history.

We try to be flexible in how we use our resources, continuing to listen to clients and their families, and at the same time not duplicating services which are already provided on a statutory basis.

Our longer term aim is to be able to fund a resource which will provide respite care on both a short and longer term basis.

Thank you for taking the time to look at our page.  We appreciate your support.
