My story

[p]I will be running, rowing, cycling and walking a mile for every person lost to suicide in 2018 in Scotland (around 705 miles - Samaritans statistics due February 2019). I will be completing the following;[/p][p]#Calories4Casualties to remember the 71 military personnel who took their own lives last year. I will be challenging people to complete 71 calories once in any way they wish to remember those lost, before sharing it with their friends[/p][p]Edinburgh Marathon row - April 20th Merchiston Castle School - 26.2 miles[/p][p]Stirling Marathon run - 28/04/2019 - 26.2 miles[/p][p]Cycling from Leith to Edinburgh - 06/05/2019 - 60 miles[/p][p]Walking and completing a CrossFit workout dedicated to lost servicemen and women atop Ben Nevis - 12th May 2019 (Centenary anniversary of Combat Stress) - 8 miles with barbell & weights[/p][p]Glasgow Marathon row - 18/05/2019 Crossfit Airdrie - 26.2 miles[/p][p]Edinburgh Marathon run - 25/05/2019 - 26.2 miles[/p][p]Great Glen Way - 01/07/2019 - 78 miles[/p][p]Cycling from Oban to Inverness - Early July 2019 - 109 miles[/p][p]Aberdeen Half Marathon run - 25/08/2019 - 13.1 miles[/p][p]Newcastle Marathon row - Late August 2019 venue tbc - 26.2 miles[/p][p]Combat Stress Half Marathon Run - 07/09/2019 - 13.1 miles[/p][p]Glasgow Half Marathon run - 28/09/2019 - 13.1 miles[/p][p]Inverness Marathon run - 06/10/2019 - 26.2 miles[/p][p]Cycling from Tayinloan to Aberdeen - Late October 2019 - 240 miles[/p][p]Suicide is the biggest killer of men under 45. Suicide in young men increased for the fourth consecutive year last year in Scotland and on average, 12 men took their lives a day last year around the UK. 1 in 9 young people in Scotland have attempted suicide and 1 in 6 have self harmed. 71 servicemen and women took their own lives in 2018. Suicide remains a huge issue and a taboo topic. Each suicide affects 32 people's lives so it's a huge issue that will affect us all or someone we know at some point.[/p][p]I don't know anyone who hasn't been affected in some way by mental health and I have had my own struggles. I would love to hear and engage with any families or communities who have lost someone to suicide. If you'd like to get involved with any of the events or allow me to dedicate one of the miles specifically to your loved one, please get in touch.[/p][p]I have set a very ambitious target of £40,000 for this challenge which represents over £50 for each person lost or over 8000 calls from those in need. £5 covers a call for help from someone struggling to cope and could save a life in the future.[/p][p]Apologise, listen, be kind, forgive one-another and let people know you care, it could change or save a life.[/p][p]No one is an island. It's ok to be not ok.[/p]
