My story

[p]5 years ago I became transfixed by the Trans Continental Bicycle race. A completely self supported 4000km ride from one side of Europe to the other in the fastest time possible. The toughest bicycle race in the world. The competitors seemed absolutely bonkers with the ability to suffer other worldly pain and endurance.[/p][p]Last October after a lot of soul searching I decided to dedicate my life to competing this year in what was a very thorough application process. Amazingly I've managed to secure a cap amongst the 300 or so starters and I'm going "full gas" to make it happen.[/p][p]This year the race goes from the east coast of Bulgaria to the west coast of France. Bourgas to Brest. 4000km, 5 times up Everest, 10 countries and for me about 15 days of riding 200 miles each day.[/p][p]This is a challenge not to be taken lightly, only half of those that start actually finish the race and it takes phenomenal stamina - 16 hours a day on a bicycle and iconic climbs through the Alps. I will be riding up to 2000km a month in training alone, I've cleared lots from my diary and I'm fully committed to this often lonely activity. Yes I love riding my bike but for this I will be actually suffering to be able to get to the level of fitness required to ride Alp D'huez with a full load of gear.[/p][p]I hope you can join me on this amazing adventure. I can guarantee acts of daring do, beautiful films and pictures from our amazing continent and who knows some inspiration for those of us grappling with the art of the possible.[/p][p]I'm doing this ride for two charities. North West Air Ambulance as they provide their amazing service to anyone who needs rapid assistance and fast transit to hospital solely from public donations (a travesty) and Tearfund, a charity close to my heart who are fighting against poverty throughout the world.[/p]
