My story

[p]Hello![/p][p]It's time for another biennial marathon endurance event.[/p][p]Nearly six years ago, Mark, Innis and Zarte (host) took part in a marathon 25 hour game of Countdown as a part of Comic Relief's 25th anniversary celebrations. They did this as a part of Mark Watson's 25 hour stand-up show, the backbone of which was formed by updates from the many other people doing concurrent 25 hour challenges.[/p][p]It went extremely well. Zarte accidentally spelled out the word "ars-e" on Radio 4 (except without the filter-dodging hyphen), Mark lost on a tie breaker and did some egregious overacting, Innis won and was a much better gent about it, Rachel Riley turned up and sat in the trenches with us, narrowly avoiding catching typhoid....it was a good time had by all. It was a genuinely difficult thing to do, but in doing so, we were able to raise a decent percentage of what went on to be a phenomenal amount of money raised by the show overall. [/p][p]So, the time has come. Let's do it again.[/p][p]As a part of the Dementia Revolution sponsored by Virgin Money (see below), Mark W is again doing another marathon show, this one lasting 26.2 hours (see what he did there?). At 9.48pm on the 27th February, Zarte (series winner, current Champion of Champions series champion, arguably the greatest Countdown player of all time) and Mark (none of those things) will commence a 26.2 hour marathon Countdown game (see what we did there?) that will be sure to test their sanity, friendship, bladders and obvious sexual chemistry, risking insomnia, insanity and typhoid to raise awareness and money for yet another good cause.[/p][p]Mark W and all of us participants have joined the Dementia Revolution; the official Charity Team of the Virgin Money London Marathon 2019. [/p][p]Dementia is the biggest health threat facing society and there are currently no effective treatments to slow, prevent or cure it. [/p][p]But a revolution is growing - on the streets and in the laboratories. Scientists are gaining on dementia, making discoveries to change lives. But they can't do it alone. We must bring dementia out of the shadows, so that people living with this devastating condition can lead more fulfilling lives. [/p][p]Alzheimer's Society and Alzheimer's Research UK are joining forces for a year-long campaign to power ground-breaking dementia research, overthrow old attitudes and lead the charge towards a cure. [/p][p]We all must make a stand; sponsor me today to support ground-breaking dementia research. [/p][p]The Dementia Revolution is here. Join us.[/p][p]Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor me and donations will be quickly processed and passed to the Dementia Revolution charities; Alzheimer's Society and Alzheimer's Research UK. [/p][p]Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this.[/p][p]We really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations. And of course, we will stream our game.[/p][p]HUNKY OAT! [that's the kind of thing people who anagram for 26.2 hours at a time say][/p][p]- Zarte, Mark and Other Mark[/p]
