Team story

[p]I do this in memory of my great friend, Matt Kendall, in aid of the charity he set up, the 'Matt Kendall Foundation' and the disadvantaged young people it supports. Matt died aged just 35, but spent his last few weeks making sure that his work with young people would continue by setting up the charity. He believed in the potential of young people, and knew that just a little financial help can make the difference between a young person facing financial barriers to get into work or training, or not, and seeing their potential wasted.[/p][p]The grants the foundation provides have changed young people's lives. The grants of just £500 to pay for the things that most of us take for granted, such as travel to work, clothes for an interview, costs for courses, etc, etc, have helped over 40 young people this year alone. [/p][p]But the charity is only supported by fundraisers like me, and receives no other funding. To keep Matt's legacy going and to help to continue to realise the potential of young people, I'm setting out on a gruelling 11 day cycle ride along the UK's canals from Guildford, Surrey (Matt's home town), passing through Birmingham (Matt's adopted city) and finishing in Kendal, Cumbria (well, it's his namesake!). That's 40 to 56 miles a day. [/p][p]I'm not a professional cyclist, so this really will be the challenge of a lifetime. £3,000 will help change at least six young people's lives for the better.[/p][p]Want to join me for a leg of the journey, or even all of it? Together we can have a laugh and raise even more for this great cause.[/p][p]Find out more about the Matt Kendall Foundation[/p][p]Find out more about my 2017 canal walk fundraiser [/p]
