My story

[p]At the beginning of April I will be embarking on a 'Thru Hike' of the Appalachian Trail. This is an attempt to hike a trail of 2,185 miles uninterrupted over a period of 6 months. It is the oldest (and second longest) maintained trail in the USA, crossing 14 states from Georgia to Maine. A hiker on the AT will gain and lose 465,000 feet in elevation - equivalent to 19 Mount Everests. Throughout, I will be sleeping in a tent exposed to both the elements and the numerous species of man-eating wildlife that populate the route. [/p][p]I am looking forward to what will undoubtedly be a huge mental and physical task - if you would like to follow me on my adventure, check out my Instagram page @harry.hikes where I will endeavour to keep everyone updated (wi-fi permitting).[/p][p]Along the way I will be supporting Afrika Tikkun, a charity based in South Africa committed to giving children and young adults the tools they need to succeed. Having recently celebrated 25 years of operations, they have made an indelible mark on thousands of children's lives. Through early childhood development, child & youth development and career development programmes AT affords young people in South Africa opportunities that are unfortunately so rare. [/p][p]In a country where over 2/3rds of children are born into poverty, AT is committed to building a brighter future by empowering young people - providing the necessary skills to access the economy and supporting their development from an early age. You can find out more via their website: https://afrikatikkun.org/[/p][p]Any donation is appreciated, and thank you for your support.[/p]
