My story

[p]We all have different kinds of brains. I love creating training plans, analysing large datasets, and reading about physics. I find shopping centres, TV, discos and parties very uncomfortable. Too much sensory input feels like being attacked, and reading social cues can be exhausting. Everyone's different, but some of the most wonderful people in my life share similar traits.[/p][p]Many people's traits are much more acute, or they're too young to learn coping strategies. For them, being on the autistic spectrum can be debilitating. Families of severely autistic people face a lifetime as carers. The National Autistic Society is the UK's leading organisation helping autistic people and their families, and improving understanding and accommodations in schools, workplaces and society.[/p][p]I'm delighted to be fundraising for NAS by running the London Marathon, and not just because I get to make a new spreadsheet..[/p][p]As well as organising fundraising events over the coming months, I'm also hoping to promote NAS's work by offering training workshops about the autistic spectrum, unpaid but in exchange for a donation. I've taught students and professionals about autism as a lecturer, and can offer sessions to schools, universities and workplaces.[/p][p]I'm also a qualified Running Coach and lead couch-to-5k, 'beyond 5k' and individual sessions in return for donations.[/p][p]Thank you for reading![/p]

A disgracefully late payment/donation for coach-to-5K sessions earlier this year. Well done on running the marathon in such challenging circumstances!
